Cheap ASX share upgrades earnings guidance
Guidance upgrade eases AI disruption fears.
Mentioned: SiteMinder Ltd (SDR)
SiteMinder (ASX.SDR) shares rose nearly 20% as management upgraded near- and medium-term guidance during the company’s annual general meeting.
Why it matters: Management now expects a mid-20s compound annual growth rate in annual recurring revenue from fiscal 2026 closing levels to fiscal 2030. Prior guidance was for growth in the 20s. Expectations for fiscal 2027 were similarly raised to the mid-20s.
- The company credits strong product adoption for the growth. We maintain our forecasts of low-20s growth over the guided period as the company has historically struggled to hit its growth targets.
- The guidance generally reflects a welcome reprieve from investor concerns, especially in the near term. Commodification of software because of lower development costs seems to be a way off, and disintermediation from artificial intelligence agents is yet to affect the business.
The bottom line: We maintain our fair value estimate of $7.50 for narrow-moat SiteMinder. Shares screen as materially undervalued because of commodification and AI agent disintermediation fears.
- We think commodification of software is unlikely. SiteMinder’s products drive more demand than those of competitors—through more demand channels and smarter pricing—and it is continuously solving new problems, meaning differentiation remains.
- AI agents are likely to be positive, in our view, for SiteMinder’s share of hotel booking revenue. Travel booked through AI agents, like ChatGPT, will move traffic to direct booking channels, like a hotel’s own website, where SiteMinder gets a higher take-rate.
Key stats: Guidance for adjusted EBITDA margins is unchanged, with margins expected in the mid-20s in fiscal 2030, compared with 11% in fiscal 2026, as the top line grows but research and development and general and administrative costs don’t grow as much. Our forecasts are also slightly shy of this guidance.
Guidance upgrade helps alleviate disruption fears for SiteMinder
We expect SiteMinder’s strategy to be wide-ranging, including a focus on attracting new customers, increasing penetration of its current product suite, and developing and launching new products. We view SiteMinder’s strategy as appropriate, despite its wide-ranging nature, as all three focus areas provide large and highly winnable opportunities.
We expect SiteMinder to take significant market share within the hotel industry. SiteMinder’s market share among hotels currently sits in the midsingle digits, yet SiteMinder is the leader in its space and has twice the market share of its closest competitor. We expect scale-based cost advantages to drive consolidation in the channel manager industry, as subscale players are pushed out of the market and scaled providers, like SiteMinder, take share. Specifically, we expect SiteMinder to take dominant market share in larger single-location hotels and in hotel chains outside of the largest chains.
We also expect SiteMinder to increase its take rate through increased penetration of its existing product suite, especially through adoption of its transaction-based products. We estimate that transaction-based revenue currently makes up just over 10 basis points of the gross booking value, or GBV, of SiteMinder’s customers. For comparison, SiteMinder Pay has a take rate of around 2%-3% of payments that are processed through a hotel’s website or, from fiscal 2025, also on payments processed at a hotel’s premises. Similarly, SiteMinder Demand Plus has a take rate of 15% on incremental demand generated through search engine optimization.
Finally, we expect SiteMinder’s new products to be significant growth drivers, especially Channels Plus. We expect Channels Plus, which aggregates several smaller channels into a single channel, to continue to see rapid adoption among SiteMinder’s existing customers and help attract new customers. Although the take rate of this product is like that of payments, we expect its uptake to be much higher, due to its more differentiated nature, as well as the clear value it provides.
