• Business description

  Nomura Research Institute was founded in 1965 as Japan's first private comprehensive think tank, and took its present form in 1988 through a merger with Nomura Computer Systems, combining research/consulting DNA with systems-integration capability. The financial IT solutions segment is its biggest segment and is a de facto utility running shared back-office platforms for Japan's securities, banking, and insurance industries. NRI is headquartered in Tokyo with roughly 16,700 group employees. Nomura Holdings remains NRI's largest shareholder at about 20% and a major client, though NRI operates under an independent governance framework and conducts business at arm's length.
