SYDNEY - [AAP] CIMIC's (ASX: CIM) CPB Contractors company has been awarded a $1.1 billion design and construct contract by the Victorian government which is expected to generate about $312 million in revenue.

The contract is in support of the $11 billion Metro Tunnel Project--Victoria's largest investment in public transport--which is expected to start construction in 2018 and to be completed by 2026.

CPB Contractors will deliver all site construction services and lead the design, supply, installation, testing, integration and commissioning activities for train and power control systems.

The contract will generate revenue of approximately $312 million for CPB Contractors, CIMIC said in a statement on Monday.

Chief executive Michael Wright said CIMIC had a strong history of delivering major rail infrastructure in Australia.

"CIMIC Group has brought together a team with extensive local knowledge and international experience to ensure the project's objectives are realised," Mr Wright said.

The announcement comes less than a week after the construction giant announced three new major contracts for its companies, including design and construction for Victoria's multi-billion- dollar West Gate Tunnel project.

The other two projects were awarded to CIMIC's UGL, which will provide engineering procurement and construction for a 270MW solar farm project in North Queensland, and CIMIC's mineral processing company, Sedgman, which will deliver facilities at the greenfield Byerwen Coal Mine in Central Queensland.
